The importance of a good monitor.

When I switched to the Eizo CS2740 monitor three years ago, I did so with one clear goal: to pay more attention to detail. My old monitor was a Full HD Eizo panel. Fine for its time, but as I started working with larger clients, I realized I was selling myself short. The resolution simply wasn't sufficient anymore, and the color gamut and sharpness left much to be desired. I wanted to be sure that what I saw on my screen was what I was actually delivering.

I got that feeling the first time I used the CS2740. The screen's size and 4K resolution suddenly allowed me to see details with razor-sharp clarity. Colors were no longer dull and washed-out, but deep and vibrant.

Initially, I hadn't done a comprehensive comparison with other brands. Eizo simply looked great, and every professional used it. That image was secretly enhanced by that cool lens hood. Because, well, it looks great. And sometimes, the eye also deserves a treat.

But after working with it for the first few weeks, I immediately understood why Eizo was seen as the industry standard, and is more than just a pretty face.

I was struck by how quickly I adapted: it immediately felt like I'd been missing something for years. Suddenly, I saw things in my photos that I'd never noticed on my previous monitor.

The biggest change wasn't even in how I saw my photos, but in how my clients experienced them. I noticed that my images now look more professional. More subtle color corrections, better sharpness, that little bit of extra polish that makes an image perfect. These are details you might not think make much of a difference, but in practice, they make the difference between good and fantastic.

Of course, a monitor like this isn't a small investment with a price tag of €1800.00. At the time (and still today), I thought it was a lot of money for a screen. But honestly, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, Eizo's service only emphasized that. Once, when my graphics card malfunctioned and a red line ran vertically across the screen, I received a new one within 48 hours, even though the old one still had to be returned. A five-year warranty truly means five years of worry-free work. You can't go weeks without a stable monitor while the repair is ongoing.

So, kudos to Eizo Europe! That's the kind of reliability you can count on as a professional.

These days, I use the monitor for all my work. This screen allows me to objectively assess what I've created. I deliberately don't schedule too much editing time in a single day. Not because I don't feel like it, but because at some point, eyes simply get tired and your judgment starts to lapse. But then I know at least one thing: it's not my screen.

And that's perhaps the crux of the matter: a good monitor isn't a luxury, but a basic tool. It's an investment that immediately improves your work, even if you don't know exactly how much difference it will make beforehand. For me, it was clear from day one: this was the step I had to take to grow. And since then, I haven't looked back.
